About JimI have 25 years of experience in the Durango real estate market as Broker/Owner of The Wells Group Real Estate Brokerage. I list and sell commercial, residential, farm & ranch, and vacant land properties, as well as oversee daily business operations of our firm. Staying active within the local real estate market as two-time past president of the Durango Area Association of Realtors and a participant on many other levels for 25 years has been important to me.
Family and ranching are also a big part of my life. I live in Durango with Daryl, my wife of 28 years; our two children (Kelly, 16, and Emily, 19); and our dogs, Cooper, 12, and Riley, 7. We have had the pleasure of living and being an integral part of Durango for the past 27 years. We are active in the family livestock operation. To round out my days, I raise and train working stock dogs.
Cooper is our 12-year-old Border Collie. In addition to being a nationally ranked working dog, he’s an honest friend.
Our younger Border Collie, Riley, is a highly competitive dog, working both sheep and cattle. He is a great worker at daily ranch chores. ![]()
I am a POST-certified peace officer. I serve as a reserve officer for the Durango Police, where I volunteer my time. In addition, I work with the Colorado Mounted Rangers, where my knowledge of the high country and horses helps with search and rescue missions in La Plata County. I am also president of the board of directors for the Durango Chamber of Commerce.
In the spring of 2008, I was asked by the Durango Area Tourism Office to travel with their delegation to a trade show in New York City, right in the heart of Manhattan, to promote travel to an area of Colorado that I really love. I was honored to help spread the word about the rural Colorado lifestyle and all it has to offer.
